About Al Mead
Al Mead is a respected community leader, nonprofit executive, and trusted connector with more than 25 years of experience building alignment across civic, faith, education, business, and nonprofit sectors in Fayette County, Georgia.
He has served as a Community Outreach Pastor at New Hope Church for 26 years, where he has led community-facing partnerships and cross-sector initiatives that connect local institutions with families, schools, nonprofits, and civic leaders across the county. In this role, Al worked closely with elected officials, educators, nonprofit executives, and business leaders to strengthen trust, collaboration, and shared purpose within the community.
Beyond the church, Al brings civic and nonprofit leadership experience. He serves as Board President of Trilith LIVE (Fayetteville Center for the Arts) and previously served on the Fayette Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He is widely recognized for his ability to convene diverse stakeholders, navigate complex community dynamics, and translate large-scale initiatives into clear, accessible communication that builds understanding and confidence.
Al also brings a unique national and global leadership perspective through his background in elite athletics and sports governance. He is a Paralympic gold medalist (1988 Seoul) and silver medalist (1992 Barcelona), a former world-record holder, and a past Vice Chair of the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic Organizing Committee. He has served in leadership and advisory roles across the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic movement and currently serves as President of the Georgia Chapter of the U.S. Olympians & Paralympians Association (USOPA).
Across every role, Al is valued for his neutral posture, cultural fluency, relational credibility, and steady leadership particularly in communities experiencing growth, transition, or institutional change. He is frequently sought out to help organizations engage authentically, reduce friction, and build long-term goodwill with local stakeholders.
